LG Oven Error Code F3
Oven temperature sensor short circuit
The most common cause of the F3 error on a LG oven is sensor shorted internally (~65% of cases); start with: test the sensor.
What Does Error Code F3 Mean on a LG Oven?
Oven temperature sensor short circuit.
F3 fires when the control board measures abnormally low resistance on the oven's RTD temperature probe circuit, near zero ohms instead of the roughly 1,080 ohms expected at room temperature. The board interprets this short as an impossibly high temperature reading and locks out heating to prevent overshoot. Unlike F2, which signals an open circuit or sensor out of range high, F3 specifically indicates a short—either inside the sensor element, a pinched harness grounding to the chassis, or a shorted board input.
What Causes Error Code F3?
Here are the most common causes in order of frequency. Start with the most likely cause before moving to the next:
- 1 Sensor shorted internally 65% of cases
- 2 Pinched wiring causing short to chassis 25% of cases
- 3 Control board sensor input shorted 10% of cases
How to Fix LG Oven Error Code F3
- 1
Test the sensor
At room temp, LG sensor should read ~1,080 ohms. Near 0 = shorted.
🔩 Multimeter - 2
Inspect wiring
Check sensor wiring from probe to connector for any pinch points.
- 3
Replace the sensor
A shorted sensor cannot be repaired.

How to Reset Error Code F3
After replacing sensor, test with 350°F bake cycle.
Note: If the error returns after resetting, the underlying issue has not been resolved. Work through the fix steps above.

When to Call a Professional
If new sensor shows correct resistance but F3 persists, control board sensor input is shorted.
