What Does Error Code IE Mean on a LG Washing Machine?
Water inlet error — water not filling within expected time.
The control board monitors the flow meter and pressure sensor during the fill cycle. When it doesn't register enough water reaching the target level within the allotted fill time, it throws IE (displayed as 1E on some panels). This flags a supply-side or valve problem rather than drainage. It differs from FE, which fires when the tub overfills — IE means too little water, FE means too much, so the two point to opposite failures.
What Causes Error Code IE?
Here are the most common causes in order of frequency. Start with the most likely cause before moving to the next:
- 1 Supply valve partially or completely closed 40% of cases
- 2 Inlet hose screens clogged with sediment 30% of cases
- 3 Low water pressure (below 20 psi) 20% of cases
- 4 Faulty water inlet valve 10% of cases
How to Fix LG Washing Machine Error Code IE
- 1
Check supply valves
Make sure both hot and cold valves behind the washer are fully open.
- 2
Clean inlet hose screens
Unscrew the inlet hoses from the back of the washer. Inside each port are small mesh screens — clean them under running water.
- 3
Test home water pressure
Run a nearby faucet while the washer tries to fill. If pressure is low throughout the home, the issue is the supply.
- 4
Test the water inlet valve
Using a multimeter, test each solenoid coil for continuity (should read 200–500 ohms). Replace if an open circuit is found.
