Haier Air Conditioner Error Code E1
Room temperature sensor fault
The most common cause of the E1 error on a Haier air conditioner is failed room air thermistor (~50% of cases); start with: power cycle.
What Does Error Code E1 Mean on a Haier Air Conditioner?
Room temperature sensor fault.
E1 fires when the indoor control board reads the room (return-air) temperature sensor as out of range — either an open circuit or a short — often a resistance the board interprets as impossible. Without a valid room reading, the unit can't compare actual to set temperature, so it drops into a fallback mode with poor regulation. This is distinct from codes pointing at the coil/pipe sensor or outdoor sensors, which monitor refrigerant-side temperatures rather than intake air.
What Causes Error Code E1?
Here are the most common causes in order of frequency. Start with the most likely cause before moving to the next:
- 1 Failed room air thermistor 50% of cases
- 2 Loose sensor connector on the indoor PCB 30% of cases
- 3 Damaged sensor wiring 10% of cases
- 4 Indoor control board failure 10% of cases
How to Fix Haier Air Conditioner Error Code E1
- 1
Power cycle
Unplug (or breaker off) for 5 minutes and restart — a marginal connection sometimes recovers.
- 2
Reseat the sensor plug
Open the indoor unit's front panel and electrical cover; reseat the small 2-pin sensor connector on the PCB.
⚠️ Disconnect power before opening the electrical cover. - 3
Replace the thermistor
The room sensor is a cheap clip-in probe near the air inlet.
